The importance of a Marine Survey

A Marine Survey is preformed prior to the purchase of a vessel. The information provided in a survey will allow the potential buyer to make an informed decision on the purchase of a particular vessel. The survey may also be used by insurers and financial institutions. Having a professional survey done is well worth the investment.

Pre-Purchase Survey

An important part of purchasing your new boat or yacht. A comprehensive evaluation of the boat.

Condition and Value

Condition and value would establish the general condition of the vessel and if was fit for its intended use. The use could range from lakes and rivers to coastal waters or offshore waters. A value would also be established by comparing other similar vessels that have sold recently

Insurance Appraisal Survey

This appraisal is done when an Insurance company deems it necessary to continue coverage. This survey would look at safety issues, hull integrity, and general condition.

Insurance Appraisal – Damage

This appraisal is done if the vessel has been damaged in an accident or grounding.  It could also be used to determine if a vessel has been repaired properly.

Non Destructive Testing

Non Destructive Testing

The methods used to do a survey involve percussion testing that can find voids or delamination in the hull and deck without cutting into the laminate or drilling holes for a sample. Moisture meters are also used to determine if water has entered a laminate. Moisture meters can detect the presence of moisture without damage to the laminate.
